Blake is in town for 6 months for an internship! It's great having him around for floating in the pool, identifying birds, and most of all for making delicious smoked meats for the occasional Sunday Dinner

Blake's friend's band was on tour and performed at a small venue in Tucson. We went to watch, and Blake ended up volunteering as their sound guy.

Max visited the weekend before Breezy's birthday, so we headed to Kotu all you can eat Korean BBQ for a birthday dinner. We decided to bring the kids, which we were worried would be a disaster, but actually ended up great. Our group was so big that we got the private room in the back, which was way quieter. I love the form factor of cooking as you go and trying a few bites of everything, and it was fun watching the kids be adventurous.

Even this guy enjoyed some of the food!

Now for the promised lizard: somehow Isaac came home from school with a baby lizard on his back! He had no idea it was there.

It was so cute!
Other events from August include quality time in Grumpa's wood shop. Elliot is making a box to store all his magic cards. I'm using some wood from the mesquite tree that fell down in our front yard to make some wood bowls and cutting boards.

After reading the Word of Wisdom chapters for Come, Follow Me, we decided to buckle down on the "eat meat sparingly" part. We have been working towards this for a while, but decided to make a big change. Aaron's word for it is "Flexitarian," but I get a kick out of calling it "Dirty Vegetarian." Basically, we are eating vegetarian (well, pescatarian- we will still cook with fish and shrimp) at home, but not worry about it when we are not at home. We joyfully eat Blake's smoked meats and go to Kotu when invited, but are revamping our home cooking. I have cooked with tofu for the first time in my life and love it! We are also trying to figure out good recipes that have a lot more plant-based proteins, like beans, lentils, and nuts. It's still a work in process, but I'm liking it a lot so far. Annie is not. A week into trying out new recipes, Annie sat down, took one look at the food, and very dramatically said "Every night I have to suffer!"

Elliot got screened for braces! The result is that he has too many baby teeth still, so we will be back in a few years. Significantly, the picture they took for their records was the best picture of him ever. I didn't know he was capable of that caliber of smile without significant manipulation! I'm on to you, Elliot!
Annie is doing ballet/jazz and gymnastics this year. She has friends and a carpool in all her classes. My favorite is dance because it's at the clubhouse and I can hit the gym when it's my turn to drive. She prefers gymnastics and is always flipping upside down these days.
