Mimi & the Bug of Doom

The one downside of our snow day is that it delayed my Mom's flight to come visit us! One day later than planned, Susan Hekking picked up Mimi and drove her down to Sahuarita. While we were waiting, Aaron took Elliot to rodeo roundup at the clubhouse.

The lad is nothing if not classy

Unfortunately, Annie threw up so we had to change our plans. We had tickets for Mimi, Aaron, and me to go to Gaslight Theatre. Aaron gallantly volunteered to stay home with the barfy but otherwise happy baby, and Susan got to come in Aaron's place. The show was called "The Belle of Tombstone." It wasn't quite as funny as others that I have seen, but my face still hurt from laughing at the end of it.

Annie seemed to be fine the next day, but a couple days later Mimi was knocked out with this vicious stomach bug. She says it is the first time she has thrown up in 26 years. I got it the next day, but not quite as bad. We holed up and watched lots of TV and took turns taking naps. Mimi had to push her flight back a day.

Last month I brought home a Spirograph set from the drop and swap at church. I showed it to my mom later that day and OUT OF ALL THE COINCIDENCES she had "Spirograph" written on the piece of paper she was holding! She was planning on buying him one for them to play with when they came out together! The one we got for free is pretty legit. The copyright on the box is 1967. I hid the box until Mimi came, and sure enough it was a huge hit. Elliot is obsessed with Spirographs now.

So not the best visit overall but definitely a memorable one! Let's not get sick next time!

Sahuarita Snow Day!

It snowed a ton on Feb 22! All the long time locals I talked to said it was the most they have ever seen. It snowed from about 7 am until noon and it actually stuck! I was convinced that it wasn't going to last that long, so I dragged Elliot outside to play in it before we went to volleyball. He did not want to get out of bed, so I had to bribe him with hot chocolate.

Annie was completely enthralled by the snow up until she got her hands all in it
Hummingbird in the peach blossoms in the snow. I think this makes me an artist.
Elliot was really just in it for the hot chocolate
After volleyball, it was still coming down, and all the exposed turf from snowman #1 had been covered up again! I didn't have gloves for the kids (note to self: next time put socks on hands), so Annie didn't last very long. Elliot refused to touch the snow with his bare hands, so I ended up making this lovely snowman family myself and having a great time doing it.

Afterwards I decided to try to recreate my childhood by making fried scones. I tried to cut corners with this fast no-rise scones recipe, which was a big mistake. It was dense and gross and nothing like my mom's recipe. Oh well- hopefully Elliot appreciated my snow day efforts!

Fire Station, Hearts, Rosies

Elliot's preschool got to go on a field trip to a fire station! A firefighter in our ward showed the kids around and they LOVED it.
Fire fighter hats were distributed. Annie now steals and wears it all the time.

On the drive home I asked Elliot if he wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. He said "no."
Valentines Day happened! I took this little cutie to the park while Elliot was in preschool.

Also cute: Annie is super into ring around the rosies right now. We do it every week for Family Home Evening, and Elliot and Annie will now do it by themselves. Annie says "ashes, ashes" in her tiny little voice and it melts my heart every time.
