The Hot and Fun Way Home

We slept in after our late night at Lagoon, then packed up and drove to my Aunt Wendi's house for lunch. Felix was quite enamored with their dog and worked hard to try to grab his wagging tail. Blake decided to drive straight to AZ to get to some onboarding things he needed to do for his internship. Mimi and Grumpa joined us for a more leisurely jaunt home.
From Wendi's house, we drove 5.5 hours to Page.

Annie and Isaac passed most of the drive sharing DJ rights and taking beautiful selfies. Annie snapped this cute picture of Felix. We rely on Annie a lot on these trips- because of how we have the seats set up, she's the only one who can feed Felix and pass food back to Elliot. She's a champ!

The picture didn't capture it well, but there was a lovely red rock sunset that we could see by the glen canyon dam in Page.

The kids LOVE sleeping in motels. They wasted no time in building a fort between the beds and setting up the pull out couch. At our motel the following night, the kids fought over who got to sleep on the floor on a pile of pillows again. That one resulted with Annie on the bed by herself with her brothers on the floor on either side of the bed. In a plot twist, Annie sleepwalked over to our bed and climbed in next to Aaron. Eventually I was being pushed out, so I hopped over to the now empty kid bed sometime in the middle of the night.

The grand canyon was as grand as ever! We had a GuideAlong Audio Tour playing for some great stories and fun facts. We drove in from the north, so we passed some vistas that we hadn't seen before. The coolest was definitely the Desert View Watchtower.
What a view! They had these cool reflective panes that artists can use to draw the Grand Canyon without having to squint into the light. The building was beautifully constructed and was naturally a lot cooler.

Elliot remains a most excellent adventure buddy and budding geologist

The boys and I climbed to the top of the watchtower. There was cool art throughout it.

Elliot nailed the sad head pose

And the frog squat

The cloud on the horizon is actually smoke from the raging Dragon Bravo fire on the North Rim. It seriously damaged a lot of infrastructure.

We got our fill of view points and decided to skip the shuttle this time around.

Elliot noticed a brochure for the Poozeum in the motel lobby. I looked it up and realized that we would drive straight through the town it was in! I convinced a reluctant Aaron to make a quick detour to bask in the glory of fossilized dinosaur poop.

The window says "#1 for fossilized #2"

I think I nailed it. The dino statue is called "The stinker."

The only person working there was the owner, who was featured in the 2021 Guinness World Records. It was truly an honor to see in the flesh the owner of the world's biggest carnivore coprolite.

The drive from the Grand Canyon to Sedona is beautiful. I wish we had more time to play in Sedona- we will have to go back soon! As it was, we had to content ourselves with the breathtaking views out of the full windows of the Chipotle.

We had just enough time before bed to go on a little hike at Airport Mesa.

The people in the motel room next to us were freaking out because of a little lizard in their room. We were able to come to their rescue and release this little cutie into the wild.

The next morning we hit the breakfast buffet and then drove home with just enough time to make it to "Meet Your Teacher" day at school.

I always love a good road trip, and this was no exception! I love that our family likes traveling together and seeing new things.
