This year has been one of big changes. One of the big ones is that many of our close friends up and abandoned us. The Knells told us that they were moving out to North Carolina, and two days after that we found out the Allsops were moving to Utah. And just like that, our default adventure group was dismantled. These are the people that were always up for potluck dinners at the park, trips to Mexico, and all other forms of good times.

After the Knells departed, we had what ended up being the lamest pizza party ever with the Allsops. I developed a sore throat and was worried I caught Covid on the trip home, so I went in to get a Covid test. The website said they had instant result test, but that was a lie, and I didn't get my negative result until 3 days later. The test was awful- they stick a swab waaaaaay up your nose, which causes your eyes to water like crazy. It makes my nose feel weird just remembering it.
Anyway, we couldn't meet up with the Allsops as planned because there was a possibility that our whole family was carrying the virus. We didn't realize that the test wasn't instant results until too late, and they had already gotten the pizza, so they just dropped off some pizza at our house and then went home. Luckily after we got the negative test results and my throat cleared up we were able to see them again before they left.
Rancho Sahuarita is a unique place to live. The development is only 15 years old, so very few people have deep roots in the area. Raytheon recruits heavily out of BYU, so we get a steady stream of nerdy engineer types with young families. Basically people a whole lot like us. Since none of us had family around (before this year at least), it meant that we were able to get close with our friends in a way that I haven't had since before we got married. It sure is hard to see our friends go, but we are happy for them as they move closer to family members. And we are so happy to have Stephen and Claudia here so that we don't have to leave!
